Life Lately....The Last 5 Months

Hello Ladies!

Hope you have all had a GREAT week.  We were on spring break this week and it was FABULOUS.  The kid's dad was in town earlier in the week, and we celebrated Olivia turning 10!  I am counting down the days until school is out for summer!

Today I thought I would share what has been going on with our family over the last few months and all the changes that have happened.

If you have been reading here for a while then you know that 2 1/2 years ago Mark was offered a job in Florida, and we packed up and left Charlotte. I absolutely LOVED living in Charlotte, it will always have my heart and will always be home for me.  Making that big move was HARD for me, it was especially hard since Harrison didn't come with us, so I spent the first few months in Florida, sad all the time, missing everything and hating that my little family wasn't together.  Once Harrison moved to Florida I was definitely happy, but still just wasn't loving Florida.  Mark was adjusting to his new position, and doing very well, and even though I wasn't in love with Florida, deep down I knew that relocating to Florida was the best decision for our family.

When our first year came to an end in Florida, things were going really well, I was SLOWLY learning to not hate Florida, the kids were doing well, and Mark was truly enjoying his job.  Life was starting to become good....and well just when things seem to start falling into place, is usually when life decides to throw you a curveball!    Last April Mark lost his job....the job we moved to Florida for.  At first when he called to tell me, I honestly thought he was kidding...I mean this really couldn't be happening!  We truly sat in shock for the next two days...and after that it was kind of like OH SHIT now what the hell are we going to do.  It was scary knowing we had kids to take care of, bills to pay and no income coming in.  Mark started looking for work, sending out countless resumes, going on interviews, and nothing came of it.  It is amazing how long it takes you to save money, but it literally takes no time to quickly watch your bank account dwindle down.  Mark didn't work for 3 months, and I cannot even begin to tell you how stressful those three months were.  Our marriage was tested almost daily, and there were plenty of times I truly felt like just walking away was the easiest and best thing to do.  We had A LOT of fights during that time, and there were days I wondered if we truly would be able to get through this together.  We had discussed cutting our losses, and just moving back to Charlotte, but the reality was it costs money, a lot of money, to move and going back there with no job, no home....it just wasn't a good idea.

In July he was offered a job, and he of course took it. He was excited to get back to work, and I felt such relief knowing we could at least pay our bills.  We moved to Florida for a better opportunity, and of course with that came a substantial raise in pay.  This job he took in July was $50,000 less than what he was just making, but we knew something was better than nothing, and there was potential to come pretty close to the salary he was making.  July and August were tough, we had A LOT of catch up to play, but life isn't always easy, and you do what you have to do.

Fast forward to September, we spent a week preparing our home for Hurricane Irma, spent countless hours looking for gas and water, and making sure our house was stocked with food...it was STRESSFUL.  I remember sitting outside with Mark two days before Irma hit and we were more worried about the aftermath than the actual hurricane.  We both looked at each other and it was like for the first time in a LONG time we were both on the same page....we just needed to leave Florida.  The hurricane came and went, and thankfully our damage was minimal, and we are so thankful for that.  Mark did miss time at work, because so much of Florida was just ruined.  We made a decision that week, that by Thanksgiving we would not be in Florida.

In the business Mark is in, he knows a lot of people, and he started calling around to see what offers were out there for him.  We were open to pretty much going anywhere (anywhere that had seasons that is...lol).

On a whim Mark made a call to one of our friends, who he also used to work with in Charlotte.  She is in the same business as Mark, and he said if there were any open positions he would be interested and to keep him in mind....he just thought he would call put the feelers out...he wasn't expecting our dear friend to immediately offer him a position...that call was an answer to a prayer.  Not only did she offer Mark a job, she also said there was a position for Harrison, this was HUGE for us.  That night Mark and I sat with the kids and we talked and all agreed this was right for our family.  Not only did our dear friend offer Mark and Harrison a job, they offered to let our family of SEVEN plus Chico to stay with them so we could get familiar with the area and take the time to find our own home.  I was unsure about staying with them, imposing on them, but they were truly sincere in their offer and it just made the best sense to stay with them.  So we packed up our house, moved it all into a storage unit and on October 20 we loaded some suitcases full of clothes and said goodbye to Florida!

The second we arrived here, Tracy and David made us feel welcome...and it was at that moment I knew everything had worked out the way it was supposed too. The hard times in Florida, they SUCKED, but it was because of them we got to leave Florida, and have this new opportunity.  I spent the first week getting familiar with the area, getting the kids registered at school, and Mark and Harrison got straight to work.

Our plan was to be in our own home before the holidays, we had looked at a few once we arrived but nothing "jumped" out to us.  I am always so amazed sometimes how things just work out...well shortly after we arrived Tracy told us she had been offered a new job and may be leaving the company, Mark was bummed about not getting work with her anymore, but we were happy for her and the opportunity for her.  About a week later she sat us down and told us that her husband was offered a new position and they would moving to SC and it just made sense for us to just stay in the house...I almost felt like I was living in a dream...after months of heartache and stress, things were just all falling into place for us.  So the week before Christmas Harrison flew to Florida, unloaded our storage unit into a UHAUL and drove it to our new home.  We spent Christmas with our friends and they left two days after Christmas.  We are so grateful to them for everything they have done for us...I will never ever be able to thank them for what they have done for my family.  Their home is perfect for our family, during the time we all lived together she saw the love that fills our four walls, and she said there isn't anyone else she would rather sell her home to than us...it was truly all meant to be.

So now fast forward to current day....here we are living right outside Memphis TN....and we are happier than we ever thought we could be.  Mark absolutely LOVES his job, Harrison loves his, Brooke is working, the kids are doing well in school and Chico is learning to get used to freezing cold temps!

Last year was TOUGH, it had more bad days than good, I cried more than I smiled, but I also learned a lot and realized I am a hell of a lot stronger than I thought I was.  I would be lying if I said I wasn't THRILLED to be out of Florida, but I don't regret making that decision 2 1/2 years ago to go. At the time it was the best decision for our family and for Mark's career, and had it not been for Florida I wouldn't be here today....in a place I love almost as much as I love Charlotte.  I feel at home, which is something I hadn't felt for quite some time.  My marriage, though it was tested many times, is definitely stronger today.

Life is hard, going through tough financial times is HARD, life is anything but perfect, but I am so thankful for the life I get to live, even on the bad days I am grateful and feel blessed.

Thank you to all of you who have reached out to me over the last 6 months checking in on me and my family, it really does mean so much to me.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  We are celebrating St. Patricks Day tomorrow night at our house with some friends, and then Sunday I am planning on putting out my Easter decor and getting the kiddos all set to head back to school Monday!

Snow Days

Hello Friends!

Well, my intentions were good last week about getting back to blogging on a regular basis and bring you all up to speed on what has been going on in our lives....and then we got some winter weather and the kids 3 day weekend turned into a 6 day weekend, and I have just been enjoying my time with them and all the fun winter weather we are getting!

If you guys have been following along with me for a while, then you guys know I was NOT a fan of Florida, especially the Florida winters...I mean it was pretty much summer there year round...and well it definitely wasn't my cup of tea.  When the time came for us to make a decision about where we wanted to live, we both knew it was someplace where we could have seasons again, and a taste of winter!  We absolutely LOVE where we are, and I can't wait to share with guys our journey over the last few months, but for now I am just going to share some of our snow pics and I am going to get back to a cup of hot coffee, and some snuggling on the couch!

The kids had so much fun playing outside!

We didn't have. a sled but the lid to a trash can worked just fine for my girl!

Jack thinks a hoodie is a winter coat...he is basically NUTS!

Standing at the foot of my driveway seeing the blanket of snow over our front yard just makes me so happy.

This is the road that leads to our neighborhood and I love driving down it every day, but I love it so much snow covered!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

xoxo,
kimm

Life Lately

Hello Girls!

Hope you are all having a great week!  Now that school is back in session, I am once again always looking forward to the weekend!

Life lately has been pretty low key around here, and it has been nice!  Our summer was cut a bit short with Olivia starting back to school last week, and this is the first summer that we did not take a family vacation.  We usually always go to Michigan, but with Olivia's school schedule, and Mark just starting his new job and not having vacation time, it just wasn't in the cards for us this summer.  We do have a beach trip planned for 4 days over Labor Day Weekend, that we are super excited about...and my mom is coming to town and will be joining us!  It will be nice to just hang out with family, and just enjoy each other!

So I am pretty sure Jack and AJ need this shirt.  My boys are literally up all night and sleeping until mid afternoon.  It is CRAZY!!!  That has been their life lately!  They start back to school August 10, so getting them back on schedule should be FUN!

These 3 have spent lots of late nights on the couch watching Ridiculousness....with all the awfulness going on in the world these days, it makes me happy to hear them just laughing at a silly TV show.

We spent a solid 2 weeks watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark Mystery and Movies Channel and the Hallmark channel...and Olivia was totally onboard, even busting out her holiday jammies from last year!

The Shopkins obsession is still STRONG over here...and I find them everywhere!!!  I wish I had invented these little things!

These two have been spending every night cuddled up next to each other...it truly just makes me so happy to see their incredible bond get stronger by the day!

And there has been lots of wrestling going on between Mark and AJ.

It has been HOT here, but I still love going out back each morning and drinking my coffee, just looking at the water, and every night we go out back and watch the sun go down, and every single night it is beautiful and I never ever get tired of the amazing view I have right in my backyard.

We have been spending our weekends just kind of hanging out, getting some things done around the house.  The downtime has been so nice!  Once the boys start back in school, and the fall months roll around (Mark's busy season at work), life gets super crazy, so it is nice to just enjoy the slow times!

The kids are super excited that next week their dad is flying into town for a few days, they are all looking forward to getting to spend some time with him!

So pretty much that has been life lately over here!  Be sure to check back tomorrow, I will be sharing with you guys what I have snagged so far from the Anniversary Sale, and what is still sitting in my bag!  Can't wait to hear what everyone else got!

Have a great day!

A Little Bit Of Life Lately

Happy Thursday Girls!

Hope you are all having a great week!  Life has been crazy over here lately, but things seem to be somewhat calming down and getting back to normal, so I am hoping to be back blogging regularly soon!

Y'all....I just love Fridays!

I feel like life lately has been just plain crazy over here lately!  Mark is finishing up "busy season" and I am so ready to have my husband home more!  I love how hard he works, but I am pretty much over the late nights and the every other Saturday crap!  Some nights he is working late, and we don't even get to all eat dinner together, and I hate that!

Harrison arrived last Saturday, and we are all still pretty much on cloud 9 that he is here!  He truly seems happy and excited to be here!  He will be starting work soon, but right now he is enjoying some "down"time!  It really is so good to have all my kiddos back under one roof again!

It has been WARM here lately...I am guessing spring doesn't exist here...lol.  It is a little cool in the mornings, and it does cool down nicely at night, and I love just sitting out on our patio, looking at the water, just enjoying all that is around me.

I love sitting outside drinking my coffee, just looking at the water, it is so peaceful and such a great way to start my day!

Mark and I went to dinner at a rooftop restaurant last weekend, and it was so nice.  I loved enjoying a meal, a few drinks, and a beautiful sunset with my guy!

Saturday night we took Harrison up to the beach by our house to watch the sunset, it was just gorgeous...I feel so lucky that we get to call this beautiful place "home".

Olivia is very much a mama's girl...that is until Mark gets home...then it is as if I don't even exist.  These two love each other so much, and I am so thankful that she has such an amazing guy to be her "dad"!

So that is pretty much life lately over here!  We are in the final weeks of school over here, and the kids are pretty darn excited about that!

Thanks for stopping by today...be sure to check back tomorrow for Friday Favorites!

Thursday Thoughts & Life Lately

Happy Thursday Girls!

For sure!  Friday is hands down my favorite day of the week!

I was sitting going through my planner the other day and it is so crazy that we are heading into our last four weeks of school.  Once again, another school year that has just flown by!  I always find that last month of school can be a bit trying.  The kids know the end is in sight, and they are so ready for a break, so at times it can be challenging to keep them focused for just a few more weeks!  AJ has his state testing going on now...and Jack starts his in two weeks...I am NOT a fan of these darn tests!

Olivia is ready for school to be over...because "Mommy 2nd grade is super hard sometimes"...that girl!  The kids all change so much during the year, and we have seen the biggest change with Olivia.  I was so nervous about our move earlier this year, and how the kids would handle all the change.  I was most concerned about Olivia.  Since she started kindergarten, going to school each day was a STRUGGLE for her.  Tears every single morning, it was hard.  All of a sudden this girl loves school..no tears, excited to go each day...what a blessing that has been.  She has really grown up and matured so much this year.  It is hard, because man I miss my baby!  But seeing her thrive, become a bit more independent has been so wonderful.  And the bonus...she thinks wearing a uniform to school every day is just plain AWESOME!

AJ decided not play baseball this season...I was kind of shocked when he said he didn't want to play, but it was his decision.  His baseball schedule in the past has been consuming to say the least, but man I have definitely missed watching my boy play!  I think he is a little bummed out he decided not to play, but he is already getting himself ready for football, and already talking about next year and baseball!  Both him and Jack are pretty pumped about Harrison being here...they love going out in the yard or to a field and throwing around the ball with their big brother!  AJ is loving our life here...AJ is so super outgoing, and had about 65 friends after the first day of school...he is doing so great, and loving life...that is just AJ!

Brooke is doing well here also.  She misses her friends from back home, and is looking to plan a trip this summer to go and see them all.  I get a lot of crap on here about Brooke, that she is an adult, living home...blah blah blah.  She is 23 years old, I am sure in the next few years she will be in her own place, but for now I don't mind her being with us.  She pays her own bills, helps out around the house, helps out with the little kids, and is able to save money.   She was always a good kid growing up...never got into trouble, no horror stories during the teenage years...it was nice.  She worked hard in high school, and school was NOT easy for her. I don't talk much about her on here, because she kind of does her own thing.  Now mind you had I blogged or social media been around during her younger years, y'all would have known her!  HA!

Jack has adapted well to our new life here.  He is not as outgoing as AJ, so it took him a little longer to acclimate, but he has now and is doing GREAT.  He is extremely focused on his studies and cannot wait to get into high school ...high school....how is that even possible.  He has made some great friends, and is just as easy going, as ever.  If all children could be like Jack, this world would be awesome.  He is responsible, kind, never mean or negative.  He is just all around a great kid.

Harrison...well you all know he will be back with us in another week...and holy heck people didn't hold back on their opinions of that:)  I am so proud of Harrison for trying to be on his own at the ripe old age of 19...he was only 19 when we moved..but has since turned 20.  I am more proud that he, on his own, realized it sure wasn't as easy as he thought it would be, and that the best way for him to get ahead in life, is to live home for a just a little longer, work and save some money.  I would much rather him move back home at 20 then when he is 30!  I want my children to know that nothing but hard work is what is going to get you ahead in this life.  It was our opinion, that buying Harrison a new car wasn't solving anything or teaching him anything, other than you can just run to mommy and daddy to save you.  That being said...we are giving him Mark's car when he gets here, since Mark is getting a new one, and Harrison will be paying us for it.  He will be able to work full time, and save some money, and hopefully in a year or two he will be out there living on his own, with some money in the bank!

I saw this floating on IG and it sure is true.  I don't feel the need to be too hard on myself or the decisions we make for our family or children, clearly there are readers out there doing that for me:)

My thoughts today, don't really differ from my thoughts that I have always had...people are very quick to give their two cents, and I don't have issue with that...but there is simply no reason for anyone to be just down right mean.  Isn't is so much easier to say nothing, or just not read over here, if you are just looking to bash on how we live our life or raise our kids.

I don't know what is right for you and your family and no one but Mark and I, know what is right for our family and our children.

I have always said this world gets scarier by the day, there are so many people that are just plain ugly in this world.  It is as if people thrive on being mean or saying something hurtful to others, when the reality is there is just no need for that.  I was raised, and still follow this...if you have nothing nice to say you just keep your mouth shut.  Seems like such a simple concept, yet many seem to struggle with it.

I love sharing our life with you guys, and I am so thankful for how many wonderful people I have met.  I always welcome everyone's comments, even if you don't agree with me, if you can be polite about it, you can be sure it will be published.  My blog is all about real life and real life means that we won't always agree..and that is fine...I am fine with "let's agree to disagree"...My hope is that people will actually start tasting their words before they spit them out, think about how your words will make someone feel.  You can surely get your point across without being down right mean and hurtful.!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, see you back here tomorrow for Friday Favorites!

A Little Bit Of Life Lately...

Happy Wednesday Friends!

I have been a HUGE slacker when it comes to blogging lately!  The kids were home last week for spring break, Olivia still has this whole week off, and the boys have school Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.  So with everyone being home, blogging took a back seat!  Here is just a little it of our life lately...nothing too exciting just life!

I cannot believe Easter is Sunday...I am not a fan of Easter in March!  I have not one single thing for Easter baskets...looks like a trip to Target is in store for me this week!

We had a pretty low key week here last week!  It's no secret that my kids love to sleep in, so last week we really enjoyed turning off the alarm clocks and sleeping in!  It was so nice to just get up, and not be rushed around!

AJ loves to fish...Jack does too, but not nearly as much as AJ does.  AJ spent the bulk of his week last week parked out back, three fishing poles set out, just catching fish...and he caught a TON!

This bird always comes and visits us...and AJ threw him one of the fish he caught, that bird gobbled it up in one bite and flew away!

The kids decided to set the tent up, it started out in the yard, then they moved it into the patio, and though AJ and Olivia brought all their stuff out there to camp out, they never did....

AJ is so patient with Olivia...he even plays Shopkins with her

And he listened to her read a few Pinkalicious books....

No campouts, but they have been having a great time playing in the tent!

It was WARM here last week, so Olivia threw on her bathing suit to water our pineapple trees....

and help wash cars!

She also spent a ton of time climbing trees in the backyard.  She is such a good mix of girly girl and tomboy!

I had my one Shamrock shake of the year, and it surely didn't disappoint!  I know it is like a gazillion calories, and so so bad for you, but I don't even care.  I look so forward to having one each March!  YUM!

We are still so in love with our sweet Chico..he has gotten so big since we first got him back in January!  He is so fun!  Lots of work, but lots of fun!

We added a few Easter touches to the house!

And added some new fun pillows...I mean Target is on point with their pillows!  I got two of each...and love them!  And I was able to score the pineapple ones on sale!

We are in the process of getting our porch set up...right now we just have a table out there, and we have been looking for the perfect little set for out there...we are looking for a little love seat, some chairs and a table or two...it is so overwhelming!  We did snag this cute little sign though at Big Lots for like $12 to add to our porch.  It looks so cute hung out there!

So there you have it, a random mess of what we have been up to lately!  I am planning on enjoying the next few days with Olivia, and looking forward to Friday when we can once again turn those pesty alarm clocks off!  Hope you are all having a great week so far!

Life Lately

Happy Thursday Ladies!

Hope you are all having a great week so far.  I cannot believe we are in the last week of October, the time is FLYING by!

Life lately has been crazy busy for us.  We are just about settled into our new home, and the kids are super excited to start school next week ( they are not near as excited as me though)!

This picture I found online pretty much sums up our life lately...unpacking box after box after box...I am so over it!

We hired a moving company, but our cars pretty much looked like this...we had so much last minute crap to bring!

It hasn't been all work though over here, in between unpacking and setting up house, we have definitely been enjoying our new home!

Life lately has consisted of sipping morning coffee with amazing views, drinking wine at night with amazing views....

My view from my porch....gorgeous

View from our dock...it doesn't get much better than this

Life lately has been me spending a lot of time at my little table just taking in my new backyard!

Life lately has been watching this girl go in and out about a million times a day....

and of course doing some fishing.....

Jack has been KILLING it with fishing..he has caught the most so far!

And life lately for AJ has been fishing filled also!

Life lately has consisted of dessert at the local ice cream shop...

And Olivia has been putting a mug and a coffee pod by my coffee pot each night to have it ready for me each morning!

So life lately has been fishing, eating lots of ice cream, and unpacking a ridiculous amount of boxes!

Be sure to check back tomorrow for Friday Favorites!
