Thursday Thoughts...Vaccinating our Kiddos

Happy Thursday Girls!  Hooray for being one step closer to the weekend!

So today I am talking about vaccinating our kiddos.  Before I even begin, everything I am about to write is solely just my opinion, and decisions we have made for our children.

I have been hearing so much lately on the news about this topic, and many people feel that it should be the parent's choice on whether or not to vaccinate their children, and if I am being honest, it absolutely infuriates me!  I whole heartedly believe all children should be vaccinated, especially if they are going to be in school with hundred of other children.

I saw this not long ago, and it is funny because I have been saying this for quite some time now.  I can remember when I was in school pretty much every one brought in peanut butter and jelly for lunch, and well now a days, that just doesn't happen.  I know some schools have peanut free tables, and some schools are 100% peanut free.  Now obviously I am very aware of the peanut allergy, so I totally understand why this rule is now in place.  That being said it truly does blow my mind that my daughter can not bring in peanut butter and jelly, any snacks that contains peanuts, etc, yet some of her classmates can come to school unvaccinated???  What the what?!?!?!?!

I can remember when I had Olivia, she was so tiny, and I asked my pediatrician, who I trust completely, if it was safe to give her tiny little body all those vaccines at once, should I space them out more, lots of questions along those lines...his answer...NO!  He said I had nothing to be worried about, to absolutely give her all her vaccines, on time, no need to give smaller doses, or space them out.  Again, this was just my pediatrician's advice, maybe another doctor would have a different opinion.

I love mommy groups, and I completely respect everyone's opinions and choices, but I often wonder if all these moms that are jumping on the anti-vaccine bandwagon, have really researched it, or are just jumping on the newest bandwagon!

I saw this and thought it was pretty funny!  I am certainly not judging anyone who chooses not to vaccinate their child, I am a firm believer in "to each his own"

As a parent, it definitely scares me that unvaccinated children can go to school, I believe there is a reason as to why we vaccinate, and I do feel that if your child is attending school, they need to be vaccinated for the safety of all the other children!

So those are my thoughts for Thursday, obviously we vaccinated our children, and in a perfect world I would want all parents to agree with me and vaccinate their children.  I certainly hope that I have not offended anyone reading this, as these are soley just my opinions!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Be sure to check back tomorrow for Friday Favorites!

  2. One reason there are so many peanut allergies is because of the peanut adjuvants in the vaccines. And, rest assured, parents who don't vaccinate have done lots of research. Much more than simply asking their doctor, who is paid a lot of money to push those vaccines.

    1. I respect everyone's decisions, this was just my opinion and I have never felt that my doctor was pushing vaccines. Thanks for your input and for reading;)

  3. I'm completely with you!!! And the research which suggested vaccines cause autism was a complete LIE! Dr. Wakefield was a fraud and the study was proven to be false. I beleive if you aren't vaccinated than don't go to public school to infect children who can't be vaccinated because of medical reasons. Good post Kim!

  4. Casey,
That's actually not the reason for peanut allergies. Doctors don't push vaccines for money, they push them because they are safe and have eradicated MANY deadly diseases. If there were no vaccines, we would probably have much larger issues, such as childhood death. Doctors have a medical degree for a reason. Not so moms can google research vaccines!

  6. Bet your perspective would do a 180 if you had a perfectly normal child vaccinated him watched d him have 48 life threatening consecutive seizures then get an out of the blue autism diagnosis. Makes it a little difficult to trust when your baby suffers and your kid grows up with a life altering disability that no one can explain. May I suggest some sensitivity to the 1 in 88 in the US who weighs this issue extremely heavily?

    2. I am an Early Childhood Specialist, and I am sorry to hear about your son. Does your child have an allergy to vaccines? Vaccines have been proven that they do NOT cause autism. There are MANY children who have Autism who were never vaccinated. I actually know a family whose 1st son had autism and they believed it happened after vaccinations. They decided not to vaccinate their second son, and he actually was diagnosed with Autism as well. They are no going to vaccinate him with all of the outbreaks that are getting near to our area right now. I am sorry for your situation, but we cannot blame everything on life-saving vaccines.

  8. I appreciate that you are trying to interact with your readers, and I truly believe your intention was not to offend anyone. However, this is a very sensitive topic for many, and the pictures you included mock the opposing viewpoint and undermine an open discussion. Everyone is entitled to their own viewpoint, but I don't know if this was the best way to discuss this issue.

  10. I really agree with your viewpoint, and I think people need to remember that you aren't saying that all parents who choose to not vaccinate are doing the wrong thing, but just explaining your personal perspective on the matter. I know doctors personally (friends and family) who feel passionately about the importance of vaccinating and they aren't pushing vaccines to make money. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, but you bring up a great point that it's important to do your research and not believe everything you hear AND you need to think about how your choices could be affecting someone else's child (i.e, choosing to not vaccinate and then sending your child to public school). This is an interesting topic and I enjoy hearing different people's perspectives. I don't think you were disrespectful at all in the way that you presented it.
    On a lighter note....happy (almost) Friday! :)

  11. I could not agree with you more. There is no need to apologize to anyone for your thoughts. I have always thought it was totally ridiculous that I am not supposed to send a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to school but others can expose my family to all kinds of disease. I'm sure my position would not be popular but how about if your kid's allergy is life threatening you home school and same with no vaccine. Personally some of these folks need a sense of humor as it was clear you meant no offense.

  12. Educate yourself. Truly. Would you purchase a home or car without research? Why would you listen to doctors who know NOTHING about vaccines, only what doctors tell them. Furthermore, I would suggest going to the CDC's website and looking at the ingredients of some of what you're injecting into your child. Calf serum and formeldahide are to name a few. even mainstream media is slowly starting to recognize.

    1. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I trust my pediatrician and therefore have chosen to vaccinate my children, like I have stated previously, this is just my opinion, and I certainly respect a parent's decision for their child.
